Just fitted my supercharger. Car goes great once a few teething problems where fixed.
With the 26 solex carb there is no room for a filter. Tried a real low small offset pancake, a small 50cc moped filter, and no luck.
Any ideas? What have you guys with the supercharger done?

What's the reason for using this 26 carb instead of the normally used 28 PCI? I see you have a 25hp era car, so probably to keep things date correct? I kinda like that idea, although you might miss the acceleration pump.
There were some very flat mushroom air cleaners made by Knecht. They look similar to the typical mushroom air cleaner, just flatter and used on German motorcycles. This could work...
Last solution would be shortening the original manifold and I would prefer this solution rather than driving without any filter.
Back in the early 50's, they used to cut holes in the deck lid, but that's just too radical

What everybody don't know is that original pepco didn't use any vw carbs it used a 23mm amal carburetor but the amal carb used a different float bowl not the side draft float bowl ... |

Thanks everyone for the help.
The 26 was a combination of factors:
25hp era car
Amazingly clean and unworn 26 was available
Hearsay that it was the better carb.
Anyway, we managed to fit a Solex 28. Warning, it's not at all straightforward. Had to mess around with the linkages, use a different screw to bolt the carb to the mounting plate etc...
Result? Damn!!! The car really woke up with the bigger carb!!! And I can finally fit a filter _________________ 1963 Karmann Ghia - Sold

Cheers. Unfortunately that scoop sat virtually on top of the open carb. So it really woke up once it was removed. I’m having a new scoop made 👍 |

I wanted to see if anyone knows who makes the bottom pulley that is on the bottom pictures. It looks to have triangle shapes milled out. I’m looking for a pepco/speedwell crank pulley. I hope to hear back as this is an older thread.
Thanks in advance.

The lower pulley from the picture your talking about was a custom pulley they were testing a larger pulleys for the pepco/ speedwell supercharger to see if it helped make more power with little effect they got some after market vw pulleys welded them to another pulley the cutouts you see is just the crank the front pulleys centers were cut out if you zoom in to the pulley you can see where the belts are you can see the welds... there use to be a guy here in the classifieds who use to sell stock pepco lower pulleys ... |

Do you have room to use the early Ghia/Type 2 oil bath/air filter neck ?
