What are we doing to replace the sliding door cables (1984) when they break these days as they are no longer available? The adjustment nut has mysteriously come off the end and won't thread back on. Mad

Can it be soldered back on with a plumbing torch? Make sure you have the end twisted the right way.

Probably couldn't solder it as the adjustment nut needs to be able to move on the threads. Its not clear to me why it backed off the threads, but it doesn't look like that nut can be replaced without destroying the cable. Mad

I fixed it. Used a thread repair tool on the end of the adjustment bolt and got the nut to thread on finally. Still not sure why it backed off, so I put some thread locker on the nut.
