Greetings all -

My father was a VW mechanic in the 70's. In going through his things he found some old documents from his days at the dealership. I was wondering if people would like for them to be scanned and uploaded to the site.

I have:

34 page fuel injection book written by Lewis E. Ero, Training Department, Volkswagen Pacific

Pages 2-71 of an electrical workbook. The back page has "Only for internal use in accordance with the driectives of VOLKSWAGENWERK AG. Copyright by VOLKSWAGENWERK AG Printed in Germany 1968.

Notes on the Practical Work for Subject No 2 - Front Axle Type 2 | 518 102 20 January 68 (15 pages)

Notes on the Practical Work for Subject No 4 - Steering | 518 104 20 January 68 (11 Pages)

VW Weathervane August 15, 1972 (Published for the Volkswagen dealer organization in the United States - 8 pages)

Metrics For Mechanics - Self Study Course (VWofA service training 42-00-02201 50 pages)

Fuel Injection Sequence Check (20 steps, 2 pages)

If there is any interest and these are things the site doesn't already have, I will be glad to sit down for a few hours and work on getting them scanned.

I think the fuel injection stuff would be of interest for people on the site.

The other stuff I'm not sure what the content is but if it's easy for you to email me a few photos I could probably tell you right away.

You can exclude the Weathervane, I know what that is and I believe I have that issue, even though I have not scanned them for the site.

My email is in my signature below

Thank you

I found the original bill of sale for my 1970 VW today (I'm second owner, bought it in 1972). I'm going to scan that and post that here in a few days.

Note to Gordon: the bumper over-riders cost the original owner $24.95 !!!

Here it is. Then I bought this in November 1972. See that this VW was a dealer demonstrator, and dealer installed some accessories.

They gave you a whopping $750 trade in for your red '65 Chevy Impala convertible! Shocked

Yikes, a 12.82% APR! Also interesting is that the dealer installed AC was $395.

No - that was the trade in from the original purchaser of the 1970 VW. November 1972 he advertised the VW for $1200, and I offered $1050 full knowing that I would pay $1200 if necessary, and I got it for $1100. Original owner said he got a job in real estate and needed a larger car to drive prospective buyers around.

Except for typical small oil leak on the pushrod tubes, only thing wrong was that the passenger door creaked like Herman Munster's, and the AM radio would only change stations by the buttons, not by turning the knob (as the little internal "cord" had broken); both those items I missed in my thorough check out.

What's also interesting is that original buyer paid $2684 in fall 1970, and I bought it for $1100 24 months later.

I seem to remember that the high-pressure AC line was broken as it routed just above the jack point on the right-hand side. So even on a 2-year-old Arizona VW the jack points were not strong enough to resist bending when jacking up to change a tire.

The AC worked "OK" for those days, but like most vehicles in Arizona not so good when the VW had been parked in the sun. Also, because of the front-mounted condenser (with a little electric fan), most times the compressor would shut off at a traffic light as the condenser temperature got too high.

I still run the under-dash part of that AC as an internal fan; if I ever even dreamed about AC for one of my beetles, I'd get an entire modern kit from Gilmore or ICE AC or VW of Mexico. I did cut an access panel for ease of getting to #3 and #4 plugs back in the 1970s, as back in those days leaded gas gave plug life of 6K.

When we bought our house in 1982 our mortgage interest rate was 14.78%. Shocked Shocked

It was really rough at the time, but I brought it down through several refinances, ultimately to 3.75%.

But in the 37 years since we bought it, the value of the house has jumped to fully 10 times what we paid. No regrets!
