I’m in no way affiliated with the author but the info is great.
I’m currently reading this and thought I would share with you guys. Absolutely fascinating information!!!
If you’ve already read it, I apologize in advance!
But if you haven’t......take a little time to read it over and be prepared to be educated on things you may have never known.
Just trying to help out other “ameteur” builders.
Very Happy

That’s advice from a repairman.

Builders will likely disagree on many of these points.

I liked how he went into the physics of the motor. But I do think that 40 ft lbs is a bit high for torquing the heads down!!!?
I thought it was very well written and made many good points.
Well.....I liked it. What is there to disagree with?

I’ve never seen a broken stud that I couldn’t extract nor have I scrapped one because of that.

Advice Needed;, removing my exhaust headers off of my t-1 the other day, i broke one of the studs that screws to each side of the exhaust ports. it obviously must get VERY HOT around those ports. About 3/16 of the stud is all that is protruding from the exhaust port head section. Zundfolge what would you try??

Weld a nut onto the remaining piece of stud, soak repeatedly with PB Blaster or equiv, then remove with a wrench. Applying heat with a propane torch to the area around the stud will help too.

I disagree guys. Scroll farther down into the write-up where he is talking about engine building. There is some VERY interesting points he makes.
He has a different way of explaining things and I can understand easier.
Check it out.

Weld a blob on it, hit with hammer directly twice.
Peen the head around the outside of the bolthole.
vise grip the blob and wiggle back and forth.
2 out of 3 you can get but some you just can't
