(was posted in the wrong section)
i was trying to advice a friend that wants to repair a 73 auto bus but he prefer to convert it to manual trans. we are needing some advice about the problems that are involved in such conversion. is it a simple swap of parts or there is some "difficult" adaptation to be performed? things like making holes or create supports welding and so on. if the work does not need important modification in the future would be nice also to repair the trans and turn back to stock. THANKS

just plug and play. you'll need to add the clutch cable tube and fold over the "wings" that make the hole for the front shift rod bushing. other than that, it's all there.

What about going the opposite way? Would love to have an auto bay so my wife can drive it. Teaching her stick hasn't gone so well.

again, plug and play. you'll need the auto axles and everything associated with the trans

Just keep one thing in mind going from manual to automatic: there were two models of automatic transmission. I call them the early 003 model and the later 010 model. Other people call the later model 090 I think. Consult the Bentley manual.

Anyway... the 003 is vacuum modulated shifting with electric kick down solenoid, and the 010 is kicked down via manually through accelerator pedal linkage. They are not very interchangeable, so decide first which model you want and get ALL the parts that make it work. ALL of them.
