| My 1991 Jetta 1.8l keeps blowing the oil filter gasket does anyone know what would cause this |

What filter are you using? The over pressure valve is in the oil pump. If that is stuck, that certainly could cause the filter to blow.
I suggest you purchase a Mann filter. If they do not have one at your parts department, you are shopping at the wrong place. |

X2! The metal on cheap ass oil filters is too thin & will distort to the point that they will blow the seals. Squeeze the filter by hand, if you can dent it or feel it yield, throw it away.

| I put a wix filter on it, I cleaned out the oil filter adapter now everything is working perfect. Thank you |
