New rebuilt engine, 30 Pic 1 carb (my choice).. But using existing wires, seem correct? Thanks, there's a red wire coming out next to the wiring harness it seems to go to the dash somewhere?

This one appears to be OK
This too
That leaves a wire to go to the oil pressure sending unit. _________________ 1970 VW (owned since 1972) and 1971 VW Convertible (owned since 1976), second owner of each. Thanks cusser, look at first Pic again, I have a wire piggybacked to the spring on carb, can I make one also to oil sending unit using same wire? _________________ -No, the point is, it's your frickin car. Drive it. park it, light the bitch on fire-- it's not for us to say. (samba member)

NO, the wire going to the carb is providing 12V. The wire going to the oil pressure sending unit is a ground wire. When the oil sending unit has oil pressure pushing on it, it actually opens or turns the switch off. When there is no oil pressure, the switch in the sending unit closes, and provides a ground for the oil idiot light. I have looked at this picture:
There is a blue wire connected to the positive side of the coil. From the factory, the oil sending unit wire is blue. So, unless the wiring has been hacked up, I "believe" that wire should go to the oil pressure sending unit. However, you will have to trace it to make sure. Do you have an ohm meter, or continuity checker? It will make your life a whole lot easier if you do. _________________ 69 road Bug 2110

If the car has or had a tachometer, the red wire is most likely the signal wire for it. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

This simplified diagram from Speedy Jim's site shows everything downstream from the single black #15 wire coming out of the harness and going to the #15 (+) terminal of the ignition coil.
It does NOT show the blue/green wire from the OIL indicator lamp in the speedo. This additional wire comes out from the harness and connects to the terminal on the oil pressure switch below the distributor.
