Having some trouble installing new points. Point surfaces do not completely meet. The point contact on the stationary side is higher than the point contact on the movable side. Thinking that a small shim on the bottom of the stationary side post would correct this. Would this work? Would the shim need to be a fibre washer kind? I have some that fit.
BTW in the pic the point wire appears damaged. It’s not. Camera angle and light?

You used to be able to get shims, i've not seen them available to 30 years.
What brand are the points, they're not Bosch?
You can carefully use a flat blade screwdriver and bend the arm so they are parallel. _________________ Glenn

Thanks Glenn. There is a logo on the points. Not sure of make. Will try the bending procedure. Metal shim would work if I could find one?

You may have some luck finding small thin washers at the hardware store that will work for a shim, or maybe clip off the tightly-wound end of a pen spring for the same purpose. _________________ 1960 Ragtop w/Semaphores "Inga" |

They're Bosch. The wire looks odd. _________________ Glenn

Yes, a metal shim from a hardware store will work. Make sure it is perfectly flat and not a wavy one. While you are at it, there was originally a hairpin style clip on the post to keep the points from riding up.

Thanks everyone for your helpful suggestions. I ended up slightly bending the point arm with a flat blade screwdriver and now the points align perfectly. Next point change will likely try the shim method. _________________ 1960 beetle
