Just like the subject says, I’m looking to double check to make sure I have every piece of tin for my ‘73. Trying to get everything together to take to powder coater but I don’t want to leave anything out since they charge a minimum. Tried searching forum but I couldn’t find anything. Thanks. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters

The Parts Manual gives a pretty good breakdown of all the cooling tin. Currently, I'm missing parts 29 and 32. Purchased some aftermarket preheater covers but they didn't even come close to fitting. Try and locate OEM pieces as they seem to fit better. Test fit everything before sending them off to the powder coaters. Do not forget items 4 (there are 2 of them) as well as items 8 (again, 2 of them).
Please Note: The infamous "Hoover bit" is located on the oil cooler diagram. _________________ Walküre Restoration Thread: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=737492 |

Interesting, here’s a screenshot from the parts manual that I have saved on my iPad. Part #29 is not shown.
Semperdad’s diagram shows an 8 and an 8a. Does the engine use both parts or one or the other?
Lastly, Andy one know what number this is:
I’m thinking either 8 or 29. _________________ - 1977 CEI Sunroof Bus 2.0L F.I. Hydraulic Lifters

Both 8 and 8a are bused.
That other part is not on the diagram but goes on the other side where 8 is.. on the 1/2 side. _________________ Glenn

Part 29 is not a critical part IMHO. Smoke'm if you got'm
8a and 8b are used on 73 or earlier 181s. Specifically those without Beetle style heat. in a 74, the heat exchangers would be used instead. I suppose if you delete your heat exchangers, you should add these on.
This item 8. There are 2 number 8s, a left (driver's) and a right (passenger's) side. Judging from the screw holes, I'm guessing it's a right (Passenger's) side.
