$500 for a linkage? How much HP does it add? _________________ 4inBhore

I seriously considered it, but in the end I purchased the csp center pull for around $100. I’m very happy with it.
I’ve heard the sync link was smooth as butter though. |

I've run the csp for a couple of years and it was fine,
i changed carbs/manifolds a few times so i got quite handy at adjusting it
only issue i ever had was that i had too many return springs, it snapped the hook of the cable at the pedal, so i used only the bellcrank spring after that. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

I have installed the sync link today,
Wasn't a big deal to set up, took me the whole afternoon because of the many fiddely parts, took me an hour or two to sync.
It took me this long cause I'm a lazy bastard

There is only 1 minor issue,
i'm not able to fit the heater hoses, as the cables cross the outlets.
i did not have the option to buy a different version i saw on the classifieds here,
Limebug only has 1 type avalible, and it doesn't mention that it won't work with heater hoses. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

Pull shroud, hack em off, hole saw higher up, reattach old piece with sheet metal block-off below it and weld. Might look ugly, but you'll have heat again. _________________ "A petrol engine can start readily, run smoothly and give every appearance of being in good order, without necessarily being in good tune." - Colin Campbell, "The Sportscar Engine" |

I will cap the outlets off for now, might cut up an old shroud o do that,
or make a set of hoses with a tube through them, so the cable can pass through _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

Here is a reply from Limebug about the heater hoses
here is the response, fingers crossed this should be a simple change
Yes, the standard kit would be installed opposite to a normal installation. The Left-hand bracket and pulley would be installed on the right-hand side of the engine and vice versa for the passenger side. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

So i went and reinstalled the sync link on the front of the carbs today,
rather than the back, took me close to 5 hours to get it all cramped in behind the doghouse , synced and adjusted.
it's a shame that it's barely visible now.
at least i can use my heater again. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

But now things are clean and tidy back there.
We should have some photos to looky-loo at from your new installation.... _________________ "...these cars were preferred by the racers because the strut front suspension results in far superior handling than the regular torsion bar front end..." - Keith Seume. |

Still waiting on pics............
Yeah, that must have been a bit difficult to install in front of the shroud.
Glad you got it to work though! |

Didn't know the sync link could be installed that way on a engine with a type 1 fan shroud. Did you have to cut the throttle cable shorter? Nice job changing the sync link around. _________________ Parts for sale https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/search.php?username=APPLEGREENVW

Thanx,
I had to cut about an inch of the main throttle cable. _________________ THE BUILD http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php

Sorry to resurrect a thread, but its content was on point for my application.
Can anyone share info on how this reverse sync-link installation would work on a T1 engine? It seems pretty straightforward (flip the sides of the carbs L/R), but I’m hoping someone can explain how the throttle cable mounts to a fixed point using this setup since it’s not going through the shroud.
The reverse setup is really nice and (IMO) a cleaner look for the heater-box-running folks than the top mounted option that is offered.
On a related note - thanks, Pete, for developing and fab’ing such a high quality linkage option for dual carb engines. |
