After totaling my 66 in April due to a distracted driver, a good friend gave me a killer deal on this 55.
It's a June of 55 US build. Non semophore.
Missing one drivers bullet tube fender, egg tail lights and correct rear apron.
It came with a few parts im not too sure on. It's been about 20 years since ive had an oval...
The first are some brackets I found in the ash tray...
And some wide "ribbed" running board trim...
Thanks for checking it out. Any help would be great! _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Yes! The headlights... Its all coming back...
Shes got her good and bad. For the most part her pan and channels are pretty solid... But she has her fair share of cancer as well unfortunately.
The front lower bulkhead corners on both sides are probably the worst.
The lower passenger door hinge is rusted solid and someone's forced the ribbed door open, breaking the lower door hinge support. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

I like them all.
The running board strip looks like cheap reproduction stuff.

Of course. Its always earlier the better i guess... But, I loved my 66. One of the most solid built years in my opinion.
The trim is very good quality and quite heavy aluminum. If its reproduction its VERY good...
I found another set like these for sale here on the samba. $150 each. Ill message him, maybe he knows... _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Car looks like a great start! Your car should have snowflake tail lights, not eggs. Luckily for you...they are more plentiful, and ALOT cheaper! Did your car come with seats and headlights? The more you can get with these cars, the easier it's going to be in the long run to complete. |

Good, cause I don't really have the scratch for a pair of eggs anyways... Or being crazy 100% correct either.
I do howerever have some snowflakes and a few other period parts Im going to throw on there.
I have a pair of decent screw terminal headlights im going to use as well... It didnt come with any lowbacks but im going to use the ones out of my 66 for now.
My old 66 was my only car and daily driver... Im trying to peice this one together to get a ride back. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Been a while since an update. Been digging into the oval a bit the last few months.
Pulled the original beam in preparations for the narrowed beam.
I have an old 80's beam I'm going have cut up and narrowed.
Also have an old school pair of chrome linkpin arms going into use in 2019.
Got a new bus master cylinder installed along with all new stainless brake lines and brake T.
Stainless braided hoses as well.
Removed the old turd of a split case and cleaned it.
It "seems fine"... we'll see... I'm a use it.
Also installed some new axle boots and WW rear torsion bushings and adjusted the rear torsion bars and plates up two inner splines.
The BRM rollers are growing on me, but I have something else in mind.
Picked up some old rusty junk too!
An original Petri 3 spoke wheel.
Her rims finally arrived from South Africa.
Thanks again Ily! Some patina'd OG paint SA Sprintstars.
Still looking for some decent, matching front fenders. Not looking to be correct. Looking for some early oval, non bullets.
Also looking for a patina'd Nile Beige radio delete/block off. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

Bus master with stock oval brakes? That would require serious pedal effort! Oval brakes stock feel heavy because the wheel cylinders are smaller, installing a larger master cylinder will make pedal effort higher still. Some people have gone the other way and installed the smaller bore 1965-1966 master cylinder to make the brakes feel easier, more like later Bugs. Other install a dual circuit master cylinder for safety reasons, which has the same bore (pedal effort) as stock. _________________

I like the leg exersize.
Kidding aside, I believe they have more "feel".
I know where and when I can lock them up.
Beetle masters, not so much... Just my opinion. _________________ ✠Miklo✠

I'm not the best with updates but I got my pile 55 on the road after untold years...
The 8" narrowed linkpin beam compared to the stock beam.
Narrowed by my homie Pat at Vintage Metal Metal Fab. https://www.instagram.com/trickbus59/
Chillin' at my homies after a 50+ mile cruise. Then around town for that bumper to bumper crawlin.
Not a problem, as predicted.
Always do your own work with patience and pride and you'll never be disappointed.
A gratuitous dash shot.
Been a lot of work since June. Suspension and brakes front and rear redone and new with all quality parts. Mostly OG parts. I dislike cheesy aftermarket vw parts with a passion.
Now... if someone wrecks this one, their neck will be wrung on site!
