I recently took the body off the chassis in order to start tackling the rust. While cleaning the chassis, I noticed a date printed on the chassis tunnel. I was wondering if this is the exact date of production and if this is rare for the date to be there. Based on the chassis number, I know it is a car from Nov. 1966, so the date does correspond with the chassis number.

My car had something along the lines of “7 IV 67” on the tunnel in the same place meaning April 7, 1967. I don’t know how they did it at the factory, but my car was made April 17 so maybe the pan was made on the 7th, decided the vin on the 16th or 17th and then built it. I’d estimate one week after the date on your pan is the build day.

Sounds like a very plausible theory. Where exactly on the tunnel is the marking located?

Alright, good to know! I don’t have a vin plate since the front clip was replaced, so I’m unsure of the exact build date. It’s located between the e-brake and seatbelt bolt on the drivers side.
