Hello,

Any issues with running with 175/65R15 radial tires on all four stock wheels/rims on my 58 Beetle?

Also the car is at stock height.

Thanks.

Those will be smaller diameter than what most people run for stock which is 165SR15. The latter are an 80series vs 65series. Why not just run 165sr15?

smaller diameter will give a lower top speed, but gives quicker acceleration. for some that might be considered a problem, others an upgrade.

I would prefer going with the stock 145R15 in the front and 165R15 in the back. However, I have access to some cheap 175/65R15, which I would only need to occasionally take on a test drive and move my car around garage/driveway. I just want to make sure they fit right and when I do go on the occasional drive they won't be unsafe.

Thanks.

Neither of those sizes were stock for your car; they'll work, but they definitely not stock. Stock tire size was a 5.60x15 bias ply or later down the road a 155R15 radial when they became available in the late 60's to early 70's. Early radials without an aspect ratio specified were generally equivalent to an 80 to 82 aspect ratio. While not original, the 165R15 is popular as it's closer in diameter to the 5.60x15 tire size while also giving a bit more width.

The 175/65R15 tires you're asking about will fit on original or original style 15x4 wheels, just keep in mind you may have a problem finding a shop that will mount them as manufacturer spec calls for a minimum rim width of 4.5 inches. Most likely you won't have any issues.
