Great update Undis, so are the semaphore pockets the correct size, and what semaphore will be used, the one in the pictures?

Comparison between semaphore used on W30/00 and the W30/26 reconstruction. It is likely the same semaphores as in the photo will be used. They would be the same as found on mid-thirties Mercedes cars. As you can see there are some differences in location of the rivets but overall the semaphore should be the same size and style as fitted to the W30s.

Thanks, that's a great picture of the semaphore on W30/00, small details but all essential.

it looks like the semaphores in the new body will be a much nicer fit that the period car. 😁

it is interesting just how far the design progressed from the W30 series to the production cars. not only does the production design look more "modern", but is more modern in concept in that the simplification and reshaping of the structure both removes weight and adds strength.

The team has been busy collecting correct dashboard items for the car. Recent find is this P&S Peerboom Schürmann Düsseldorf speedometer that would have been used on the W30 cars. These were installed on BMW and other motorcycles of the time. Also the ignition & lights switches and indicator lights located. These would have been installed on Mercedes and other cars of the time. The team has access to detailed parts lists for the W30 cars, so armed with this information it's the matter of searching old catalogs of various manufacturers and locating the correct items for sale at parts markets and E-Bay.

If you are wondering what Park, Aus, Matt, Hell means this is what I found. Has a better view of the key too.

Edit:- maybe see if this switch is available, it's in better condition.

Finding all the dash parts is insane, amazing. One question, what is the object attached to the glass in the picture?

Thanks. That makes a lot of sense. I was wondering about that switch as clearly it is for ignition but did not realise it doubles as light switch too. The switch on the left is for semaphores then?

Also, the key would only be for engaging the ignition but the actual starter button should be a pull knob down on the chassis tunnel.

That would be a thermometer. Keep in mind there was no heater in the W30 cars so the driver needed a warning when the temperature drops too far and it's time for a swing of the old Schnapps bottle Laughing

I'm disappointed to learn that "HELL" has to do with lights. I was picturing this setting to pop up a lid in the back where a little demon would then proceed to flip the bird to the driver behind you Wink

Anyway, Wikipedia says that this is also the reason behind the name for Hella lights - "heller" means brighter in German

Kudos to those doing the extraordinary work on this car. I couldn't help noticing that they use no acid etch or weld thru primers on the backsides of any of the metal prior to attaching to the body. This begs the question is the plan then to dip the body to access all the bare metal cavities like back in the day. I'm sure this is not a detail they have overlooked, just interested to know the plan. A vat of the correct primer for this car large enough for dipping, not to mention the environmental implications of using the correct primer, doesn't sound to economically sound (although the pockets building this car are much deeper than my own so maybe they don't care). Anyway, just wondering...

Just a quick update. The guys are working on further details for the doors and door frames. Here we see the door wedges being installed.

These are probably the last photos of W30/26 before the meting at Hessisch Oldendorf where the visiting public will be able to see it in person. Here it is just before departure from René Große Restaurierungen GmbH & Co.KG in Wusterwitz and upon arrival at the museum in Hessisch Oldendorf seen posing with the VW38/06. It's incredible to realize there is only one year between these two designs.

As usual,
Thank you for sharing such amazing images.

Unfortunately I can't make the journey to HO22 in person this time around. So I have to live vicariously through what you post here.

That last photo will be my new desktop background.

Safe journey to all who attend HO this year.

The shot with VW38/06 could almost be a period picture from the late 30's if it wasn't in colour showing the W30 is naked.

Brilliant, looking forward to the next update already.
