Great pictures of it, without a doubt it's an impressive build. I'd not seen the front lid support bar before, so many great details unique to a W30. _________________ When I think of something to say - I'll be the first to know

Is this the primer or the final coat of paint? I'm loving either way, just want to know if it is time to update my model |

Looks like it's still in primer just as seen at the Volks World show. _________________ Check out my Facebook page: Volkswagen Prototypes. |

Amazing to see it more or less complete.
I recall that the frame is original, discovered 30 or so years ago. What engine are they using? _________________ Gone but not forgotten: 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1966) - another 1950 Hoffman split (restored in 1996) |

There will be a book about the VW 30 soon. It comes from the same editor as the book about the VW 38, interestingly it has the same title. First the German edition will be released:

Fantastic news!
My library was in need of more early Volkswagen publications
While I would love to be reading the Deutsch version, I'll be one of those waiting eagerly for the English edition _________________ Collector of all things Volkswagen, Hazet and Matra.

It was stated in another thread where the frame was first shown off, that when found it had other parts of the drive train, but no specifics were given. It was stated that those items would be shown when the time was right. _________________ Chris

After a well-deserved break, the team is back with some progress updates. The car has been finally fitted with correct bolt-pattern wheels. The profile of the rims is not a 100% match to those used originally on the W30, but wheels are easy to update when more correct type may be found.

The body is back at the body shop for paint prep and eventually, the final coats of nitrocellulose lacquer. I've been told the color will be a gray tone from the 1936-37 Merecedes catalog. Really looking forward to that!

Superb pictures, looking really really good. I love that stage before paint, hard to believe this was hand formed. Thanks for the update.
Wait... I've just noticed the gutter has been removed! Is this a difference in construction or was it always added on to simulate a normal join you would find on a mass production car? _________________ When I think of something to say - I'll be the first to know

As for the rain-gutters, all of the Daimler-Benz built bodies had the gutters added to the main body construction. They were not an integral part. My guess is that the gutter has been temporarily removed for the ease of paint prep.
Only in 1938, starting with the Reutter built bodies the gutter became an integral part, basically the joint for the roof panel and the side panels. This is nicely represented in the 1938 patent.
See figure 4.

I thought a case and some internals had been located earlier in this thread. I could be wrong but I believe they are in the process of building a correct original motor. |

Body is now painted in Original 1936 Mercedes grey Nitrocellulose paint.
Thanks to René Große Restaurierungen for the super work.
