Painted the 1974 KG Coupe. I thought it came out pretty good. I'll admit I may have lower standards than some since this was my first paint job…and I want to get her on the road. However the hood does not even meet my low standards. I think I have a couple problems. There are streaks - so I think I didn’t lay the paint down very well.
Please keep in mind in all the photos lighting is not ideal....
My plan is to sand and respray base and clear. My most important question is to what grit should I sand before respraying the base and clear? Surely I don’t need to go all the way through the base coat… But should I do more then scuff? It’s been about 6 weeks since I painted her.
Complicating things, there are obvious flaws that go deeper than the paint.
I can feel the flaws... I have no idea how I missed them prior to painting...
So my plan is to resand and fill these bad areas as necessary. But again to what grit? Does this change things since I will be using filler? And do I need to spray a primer / sealer before base coat / clear coat?
I also included pictures of the doors. I think they came out well (again low standards) but being my first paint job they are shiney (for any Serenity fans out there).
Thanks,
Matt |
