I was about to order new weather stripping for my baja bug and I noticed something tonight for the first time...
The drivers door is a post 65 and the passengers door is the correct pre 65 door.
Can I convert the drivers door to make it the same as the passenger side? Is it easier to convert the drivers side?
To do this, should I just get a parts door and swap over the glass and vent window post or is there more to it? Does the window regulator need to change too?
Now that I’ve see; this, it can’t be unseen... |

You probably should just swap the door. Not all are interchangeable, but as you found out, some years do interchange. My ex-wife's '65 got its door bashed in, and an earlier (small window) door was installed as a replacement.
Someone here can probably tell you which year doors will fit your body shell. Do you know that model year? |

The doors fit most years, but a 1965 door and 1964 and earlier have so few interchangeable parts, interior door panels, lock mechanism and the handles. The 53-64 door stampings are not close at all to 65 and later. The vent wings and glass are not interchangeable between the two styles. Not sure but the 65 door may be one year only since in 66 they went to inset door handles. Also there are ice pick door handles and different styles of door handles. If your car doesn’t have ice pick door handles, you’ll want want 60-64 doors. _________________ 1964 sunroof Beetle Restoration "Herbie"
