Next Level Jimbo!!! Wow that is soooooo cool. I bet you go out there in the middle of the night and give it a spin when you get up for a drink of water.

Sounds like a Sperm Whale calling for a mate. Lol!
Maybe wrap the tubes with some pipe insulation. To quiet it down while rotating the body.
That squeal would annoy me. Kinda like leaking air hoses on my air tools.
3 seconds, and I disconnect the tool from the hose!

I like it. The balance is perfect.

On the progress. Looking at your latest pics. The body is much closer to being complete and rust free.

Keep it going. It'll get done before you know it! Cool

Thank you! Not even the wife talks to me like that. What do you think about the Bug on the rotisserie?

Joking. Thanks!

YES IT DOES! Thanks. That’s all I will be thinking about when I rotate this thing.

The video reminds me of the Humpback whales songs, when they return to Hawaii's Island waters.

And the visual!!
Like a grizzly playing with a beachball!

Seriously though, Masterful. So cool. I'm in AWE!
And you made it look so easy, even with a broken back. HAH!!

Totally agree about the whale’s songs! It does sound very similar.

I am a little like Gently Ben. Do you remember that show?

Got in a couple hours of Bug time! Spent it grinding previous welds down. The rotisserie works GREAT!!! Do not know why I have waited so long to make one. So much easier on the back. SO MUCH EASIER!!!!!

Ground the welds at the interior of the trunk.

Turn it slightly. Then ground the welds down at the rear bumper bracket.

Then I welded in a missing fender weld nut. So, turn it again!

Copper sleeve keeps the weld splatter from sticking to the bolt threads, and keeps the puddle out of the nut hole!

Ready for some plug welds.

Time to grind.

Then I climbed inside and stood with my legs through the rear quarter window hole. I then started grinding the dog shit welds I did back when I welded in the shelf. That was a while ago!

Got about a foot down, when the call from the wifey came in. Clean up, we are going to the brewery for dinner and a few pints!!! WHAT A WOMAN!

See you on the flippity flop!

I did! It was fun for about 20 spins. Then it stops being fun. Then a buddy drops by and I spin it for them. They take a turn spinning the car. Then, a beer or 2. Spin the car. Done.

I will draw out what I built, along with a spec sheet. That way you can just go for it and know it will work.

Thanks for stopping by. Bring a couple beers next time!

That rotisserie is exactly what we all need for these projects. I'm looking forward to the specs/drawings. I've got a pair of mismatched engine stands to work with. Your mounting points at the bumper mounts look like they get the job done perfectly. Thanks for keeping the work you're doing posted up for all of us learners, Sensei. Glad your back is healed up...ageing isn't for the weak or timid.

Could not agree more! I do not know why I put fabricating these stands off for so long. Every time I have restored a Bug, I thought, “You should make a rotisserie.” But do I? Nope. Rather continue to repeat the same path. Makes no sense looking back, but now, looking forwards. I was a dumbass! Live and learn. After all, I am just a student.

Back is still healing. Work last week was very physical. We managed to knock down several interior walls in an old home. Installed a pretty large beam in the ceiling to support the roof load that had previously rested on the walls that went missing. So, slightly tired, but still manage to do something! Thanks for following along!

One of my role models! That guy was in a class of his own!

My other role model is my father. I believe he is Michelangelo reincarnated. He just likes creating machines from nothing. He has been building a sailboat for 15 years. He is on model number 4, currently. Drop down center board. Here are some pictures from six months ago. He has an amazing mind! I am always in ah of what he accomplishes at the age of 71!

He's got insulation on his garage door too! Very Happy. The apple does not fall far from the tree. (The boat is amazing)

Nope. Fell off and leaned on it! My grandfather, my father and I are 3 peas in a pod! We all have stuff to keep us entertained!

Managed to get a walk in on the beach with the wife after breakfast! That is the Huntington Beach pier in the background! It was a gorgeous day!
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Then we got home. She went to work and I went out to the garage for 2 hours! Went back to grinding down past welds. Adding a few extra welds and patching all of the small holes that did not matter at the time!

Started off pulling the Bug out and flipping it over onto it's belly.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Ground down the remaining weld pools in this area of the Bug. Filled in a few that had a pox mark in them. I also was finally able to weld the bottom flange onto the heater channel from the lower luggage shelf/cross member panel.
Image may have been reduced in size. Click image to view fullscreen.

Cleaned up! Until next time!

Is this the place you're talking about?

http://metaldipping.com/

I ran into them when I was searching for a dipper/electroplating shop.

There is a place here in Ohio where you can dip a whole body into a vat of some kind of chemical bath that etches everything to clean metal inside and out. I saw someone on a build thread here had that done and also the place then dipped it in something else to seal it up before primer. It very dark gray afterwards. Probably you've already looked into it.

Excellent to reach this stage. Wishing you continued health.

This sounds like e-coating. I found a place in Lousiana that does the dipping and the e-coating.
