"Possibly one of the most restored Syncro Westfalias on the planet": 2,100 hours of labor/love = $125,000 for 1990 camper. _________________ "Fritz", a temperamental and unforgiving 1989 Westy that proudly bears his German flags and status as a member of the exclusive GoWesty Belly Flop Club.

$60 x 2100 = 126,000
If there was a craftsman worth $60/hr working on that van, productively, for 2100 hours, thats a bargain. _________________

Pretty sweet sure. But I don’t understand how people are financing these. It’s still a passenger vehicle and banks generally don’t cut auto loans for cars over 10 years old. So I guess cash flush, or home re fis or something? _________________ '87 Westy 1.8T Conversion, Orignal Owner, European Delivery @ Westfalia factory in Weidenbrueck.

I'd respectfully disagree and take 80% of the finished product for 50% of the cost. The law of diminishing returns appears to be in play here both in terms of materials chosen and labor invested. Beautiful van though. |

One can obtain an RV loan on them, or so I have heard. _________________ 1989 Syncro Westfalia 2.5 smallcar subie |

Never try to understand peoples finance decisions. Most of America pays grifters 2/20 to underperform index stocks. Warren Buffett doesn't, and has a million dollars in his pocket to prove it. _________________ .ssS! |

A TDI with a VNT 17 tuned engine coupled to a syncro transmission which I doubt highly is brand new sounds like a recipe for disaster. |

I've read there were relatively few original Syncros produced. Of those, I guess there are 10% left? So, lets just say there were 25,000 originals in the world (I don't know exactly, but from what I've read, this is my best guess) and now there are 2500. In terms of what that means in terms of collect-ability, I can't say much other than: I sure hope to never want a Syncro.
That being said, I do believe the old Car Sales Guru truism: 'There's a butt for every seat'
Most of us are not wealthy. Some are, though. For the wealthy trustfunder kid, $125,000 and a yearly upkeep of $15K might be a bargain for a tad bit of freedom and bling.
Also, I haven't checked the lottery tonight, I'll have to admit even I would be tempted, should I suddenly become a multi-millionaire. _________________ '87 Westy 'Flossie','86 Westy 'R1','86 tintop GL - Subi2.2 'J2','83.5 stock tintop L 'ZoomBus','74 Karmann Ghia, '63 Notch |

There is only one and will only EVER be one.
Theres a butt for that Zyncro.
People buy boats that depreciate $125,000 in the first year.
The person who buys that van ain't borrowing the $$. _________________

I got a van in for an inspection from Westy World or something. Guy paid 100k for a 2wd automatic with a subaru engine in it... It looks pretty, but there are a lot of other things I would buy with 100k cash. It will be interesting to take a close look tomorrow. _________________ 1986 Canadian Syncro Westy TDI - 1989 Syncro Single Cab - 2001 Audi S4 - 1981 VW Caddy ABA - 1980 VW Caddy EV - 1973 VW T-181 |

This one has 24k syncros, when you change the transmission oil, you screen out the gold metal flakes and sell them.
There must be so few left, this one has kept creeping up from $40K to over $200K |
