Hi folks.
This for an '88 Vanagon with ABA Jetta engine but fuel pump, starter wiring is "stock".
For specific testing purposes, I recently used a fused (7 Amp) wire to connect B+ from alternator to the fuel pump red wire at 2 pin connector in engine bay. While doing so, pump ran, then when cranking the engine, the fuse blew.
Could the starter have drawn some current back through the test wire thus blowing the fuse in that wire OR......
Looking here:

IF the fuel pump draw alone caused the 7 Amp fuse to fail, does that indicate a fault or inefficiency (wear) at the pump? Pump is quiet, electrical connections are clean to it, engine runs fine but has an intermittent hot start issue.
Thanks
