|
Dual solex h/44eis carbs on a fiberglass buggy. Air filter mounting posts are not removable. I have about 7" of clearance between throat of the carbs and body, but since I can't remove the mounting posts, have no room for an extension. Any tips? |

Those posts are removable - from the factory, there should be two round "buttons" that are actually screws (without tips) that hold those mounting posts on.
In this pic (stolen from the samba gallery), they have been replaced with small bolts:
You can grab onto those buttons with a small pliers or vice grip, and unscrew them - then you can use a carb sync. _________________ 1963 Manx copy

Thanks Steve. Can a snail gauge be used on Solex carbs, or do I need the old style gauge? And, with Solex, I need a riser one way or the other, correct? |

Happy to help, CNSRANCH. You can use the snail gauge - I've read that some use a cut-down orange juice can to work around the bosses on top of the carb.
If I remember correctly, I used my carb sync (snail gauge type) successfully without the OJ can adapter - it didn't fit well, but I was still able to sync both carbs just the same.
