most likely where the oil comes out will be clean because the detergent in it will wash everything else away. Also you might consider using a dye like Gary suggests.

Well - Robbie was here a couple of weeks ago and we looked at it. At first he thought it might be lose nuts at the heads. We checked them and the lowers were nice and firm. He suspects that it's probably leaking from the sealing at the joint at the case halves.

Here's what I see is the main source of the leak.

Perhaps I'll have to pull the engine to check the head nuts above the valve train. Has any one else had a leak from this same place that my have any thoughts?

But - thank you for following up.

Probably 80-90% of engines with very many miles on them are wet on the lower third of the cylinders. If its not dripping excessively this is just not something to worry about.

I'd be shoving a bore scope or inspection camera in the tin through a spark plug hole to see how the top of that cylinder looks, cooling air blows things around in many strange ways.

Thanks for all the comments. I have a small snake camera and will check out the top of the cylinders. And I thought I was only losing oil on the 3/4 side but the photo I posted is from the 1/2 side. Here’s what the 3/4 side looks like.

I got out my little WiFi camera and this is what I saw on top of the #2 jug:

And here’s what my engine looked like in 2017 when it was out of the bus:

You can see there is no oil on the top of the jugs. At this point of my bus ownership, I had driven about 500 miles. Since then, I’ve put about 5,000 miles.

If it were me I would do a cylinder leak down test. Idea
.There is quite a lot of oil leaking from #1 cylinder and running down past the
Oil control valve .
And if you don’t drive it in the winter pull it and do a reseal plus whatever
Else you may find.
Possibly resurface the heads and a valve job .
