Hi all,
It's been pretty busy here at the Bowman household lately, getting ready for the 34th BNNTA camping weekend this upcoming weekend! The registration packets/forms are printed (I've got to assemble them), the trophies have arrived, the new 2019 event t-shirts are finished and picked-up by an attendee to be brought from Chicago down to the event at Mark Twain Lake, and I'm starting to prepare and load up our Transporter fleet for heading to the event on Friday. The USACE Rangers will have the group campground prepared and should have the gate open early.
Please note: Anyone arriving earlier than Friday at noon must drop by the entrance kiosk over at the "main" campground about two miles away and pay the normal $18 per night camping fee to the Corps of Engineers for staying in the "group" campground before Friday when I leased the campground. Please don't get me in "dutch" with the park staff! If you come early - then you pay the Kiosk folks. Thanks!
The latest long term forecast looks great for the weekend, average high temps in the 70's! Average nighttime highs in the low 60's (so bring a sweater or jacket). A slight chance of light rain at some point on Saturday. GREAT camping weather!
Our buddy Jim Kirk is returning and cooking up some bar-b-que pork butts for our Saturday evening communal pot-luck dinner. If you plan to participate, please bring a large and tasty dish of your own to contribute to this pot luck dinner with all of us. Don't be a dork and show up with a bag of chips and think that you deserve to strap the feed bag on and go to town. Please contribute a dish and enjoy the company of your VW camping friends over a communal dinner. Depending on what is left, we might have a Sunday evening "leftovers" dinner too.
Speaking of Sunday evening, by popular request we "might" have a viewing of photos taken in Europe this past June of the amazing Bad Camberg, Germany and European Bug-In, Belgium VW events. We're trying to round up the audio/visual equipment now...
The USACE Rangers and staff are looking forward to seeing all of the VWs again this year. They report that despite the plentiful, almost excessive amounts of rain all spring and summer that the lake height is at "normal pool level" for everyone's use! So prepare and pack up your VW Transporters and other VWs for a fun and safe journey over to Mark Twain Lake, MO for the VW camping festivities this upcoming weekend!
Enjoy the drive!

Fantastic, cool almost Fall-like temperatures, light rain on Friday afternoon, gorgeous the rest of the weekend. 102 participanting VW vehicles, over 4 days/3 nights. OThe oldest Bus was a 1957 Transporter. Lots and lots of Westfalias, at least 3 Riviera conversions, one "Vista" Eurovan conversion, one Vanagon transmission replacement in-campground, a fun 60 mile long backroads scenic tour over to historic Hannibal, MO, a fantastic communal pot luck dinner on Saturday evening with a "leftovers" communal dinner on Sunday evening, 13 awards presented along with a lot of door prizes passed out to attendees on Saturday evening. On Sunday evening a slide show presented about the recent Bad Camberg and European Bug-In weekends over in in Europe for those who couldn't attend themselves
, lots of kids and dogs and at least one super furry cat!
Thanks to all of our new and old friends, some who drove long distances to join the VW family reunion at 34th "Buses Nowhere Near The Arch" on 27 mile long Mark Twain Lake west of Hannibal, Missouri. If you like, please post your thoughts and event photos here for others to enjoy!
