I had the same sit down with all the kids.
Enter work force between 22-25 depending on grad/ prof school.
Over next five years, until age 30, save 50k in equities. While there friends showed off their leased new cars, I put together $1000 beaters for them to drive as their retirement gift, early edition. The car payments were the difference.
Congratulations, you are done with retirement cash need. _________________ .ssS! |

I retired in May from my career of 30 years. I have a pension and investments.
I knew that I was going to continue, to work, post-retirement, in a totally different capacity because a) I can't sit still, b) I need to be responsible to someone else, and c) I need to be on a schedule.
Now, almost 5 months later, I am in better shape than I was 15 years ago, and I have NO STRESS due to the nature of the differences between what I used to do and what I do now. _________________ “If you care for a thing long enough, it takes on a life of its own, doesn't it? One last tip fro the young.
Don’t count on pensions. They can be underfunded, scammed, emptied by Wall Street a lot easier than the free market. It is a different era than your Grandfathers era of corporate responsibility.
In our town, the Catholic Church, operating budget approximately 170B annual , walked away from the pensions of affiliated hospital saying the money wasn’t there and left the retirees dry. Legally, they had separated the finances of the Hospital from the Church
There was a call for a State bailout which failed , rightly so.
Keep control of your money directly, invest to the pain level as early as you can, and don’t leave match/ deferred comp on the table _________________ .ssS! |

Many of you prolly got stimulus checks. Me and wifey did not. You cannot even deduct a second home anymore. We lost our only dependent claim as he is 25yr old college grad.
As far as retirement - i will keep going with work. When you stop moving is when you start to die. A lot of you are probably on meds- im not. My health is all i care about now- eating healthy and sorts. What the hell good id a lot of saved retirement if you are sicker than dog? So all things considered a healthy body goes a long way - which is all i would care about. Money i can earn that.
But you are right about having a skill that can pay.
The military is a good start for young people— but it is not without issues. Some youngs dont make it back whole ..or not at all. I gave mine bit.

How right you are when you lose health you’ve lost it all. It made me think about this old feller. He’s still in the saddle because this clip is from 3 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zyFMPKxtFb8 |

I retired sept. 2 years ago, between std. pension, social security, enhanced 401K, annuities from Northwestern Mutual Life, and no debt, we are pretty well set no complaints. However, just for extra toy money, I drive cars fro a big local auto dealer that does trades with other dealers. I am the out of state guy, if a straight trade, I take a new car, drive to a dealer in another state, and bring a car back. Sometimes I fly, get picked up and taken to whatever dealer and just drive a car home. out of state trades gets me anywhere from 9-20 hours in a drive, i can get a hotel if I get to tired, all reimbursed. I usually do 1 big run a week. About as mellow a gig as you could have, absolutely no stress. |

That is exactly right -
My son is 25 yr.. graduated last year and worked a whole year, saved all his money almost 40K. He lives at home, no debt, no car payment, no loans, no mortgage, he eats for free. I told him to enjoy himself coz when I drop dead he will have to fend for himself.
My and wifey made a goal to give our children a better life than we did. And to that end, I think we are successful. In our old age later on, I don't ever want to bother anyone. I have always been independent and prefer it that way.
Old age will come soon enough. How full are your bucket lists? mine simple - I will just count how many dozen deers will be in the meat grinder before I kick the bucket. |

They'll all be waiting for you on the other side, wanting to kick something else. Good luck. _________________ Немає виправдання для війни! Я з Україною.

Thanks for that! I had a work related medical issue in mid life and had to start from the bottom in a new career in a new to me part of the country. Looking back I would estimate that I lost 15 years of ground financially. This includes the stock market crash in the '80s that took about 70% of our savings. The climb back out has been long and tedious but has ended with having a home paid for and no other debts. The down side is that we lived within our means which means driving used cars and fixing them myself, buying a fixer-upper home in an area with little resale value and forgoing retirement savings to accomplish the debt free status. There is not room for both savings and paying down debt when you start life over at 40 years old.
I have worked my whole life in the trades and that industry rarely offers pension plans so I am relying on a mandatory government pension plan that has been grossly mismanaged and pays very little compared to what I put in for 47 years.
At this point it looks workable if we downsize enough and my health holds out so that a big garden and home and car maintenance is still possible. After that I'm not sure what will happen. |

Got a roof over our heads and lots to eat, anything more at this point is a bonus.
Speaking of jobs though I just got back from a 6 week temporary job that paid pretty well for what it was. One or two of those a year will finance a few luxuries! |

I agree that sounds like a fun gig.
Are these new cars or used? I’ve dealer-traded new cars several times and they always came on a car-hauler. My Golf came from New Mexico to California and arrived with 7 miles on the odometer. I’d be a little miffed if I bought a new car with a couple thousand miles on it. _________________ 1971 Super Beetle |

my thoughts exactly -
If SHTF - I want to be up in the mountains. Been looking for some lands in WVa -
I wonder if the govt will tax you extra w/ just having a cabin in the woods? The land will get taxed as usual.
The govt will probably force your ass to run a powerline to the property...even if you don't hook up to it. |

After I read the link I’m about to post it dawned on me I had something along those lines a 1970 CL450 Honda. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CL77
Back on topic though I have not been retired long enough to think about getting a job😀 I’m still setting up my revenue streams. I’m thinking about sitting on a park bench and watching pretty girls like aqualung. |
