Not sure this is the most appropriate forum for this topic but it is the only forum in which I participate so...

There has always been a town rumor that the local VW dealership was the first in the country:

Sadly, it closed just a few years ago.

Curious what information the denizens of this forum have pertaining to this.

So they say, but the date seems to be 1950 and that is the claim for the New Milford dealership as well. Clearly NY would get the limelight but I wonder if anyone has information regarding the little New Milford dealership?

The probable reason for the claim of your local dealership Michael is Hoffman VW were only VW dealers for about 2 years before changing their allegiance to Porsche and are still in business as Porsche dealers today.

Hoffman imported way more than VWs.

I remember the last Hoffman Dealership I knew of on Rt 35 in Neptune NJ, it was BMW.
I think it closed when BMW established their own North American division in the mid 70's.
