We need help in Boise. We are traveling from Seattle to Ft. Collins and it seems something has gone wrong with transmission. We know no one here. Could someone help with pointing us to a good mechanic? We are in a Maroon Westfalia in the parking lot Albertsons at W Overland rd and S Vista Ave.
Phone number is 206-228-2513. Thank you

Do you have the VanAlert App?
It is a good resource for getting help. It has repair shop listing and helping hands on the road.

You can find it in the app store

A 2nd for Pioneer!

Matt and Katie from Pioneer Wagen Werks were lifesavers when we were on our way to Syncro Safari in 2013. We got a 200+ mile tow there from Weiser, ID. As soon as Matt got in my van and pressed the clutch pedal down, he predicted the issue and was 100% right.

100% endorse them.

Auto or manual? Post up the maintenance history and any recent work, and the symptoms. It's Sunday and there are a lot of folks who may say "the linkage came off the transmission - 15 minute fix" or similar.

if you'd like to know what might be the problem and solutions before going to a mechanic, feel free to describe what your issues are. it might be something as easy as the linkage has slipped on the transmission. if you just need the name of a good mechanic and don't want the fuss, that's fine too.

remember you're driving a 30 year old vehicle across country. always helps to have a few educated opinions under your belt before warming up the credit card!

Ruby,

Dan's advice is sound. Posting the symptoms might have saved you a bunch of time and money. Best.

I also agree with Dan, what is happening that you say you have transmission problems?

Is it not shifting into gear?
Is it going into gear but you've no motion?
You cannot get it out of gear?
The clutch will not release so you cannot get it into gear and it grinds the gears?

Did the problem happen on the road so you stopped?
Did you stop to get food, came out,, and you now have the problem?
