On a 1999 VW Jetta, 2.8l, VR6.
In order to replace the engine air filter, to remove the cover on top, I disconnect the tube for the intake, and I see two wire clips on the box, but can't seem to find out what else is keeping it from coming off? |

MkIII or my IV? 99 is a mid year transition.
The mkIII has two more clips tucked in under the fender, a real PITA to get the one behind the headlight.
Remove the two rubber O-rings holding the lower box to the frame horn, that give you about 1” to work with. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

MK3.
I found my answer by looking at the air boxes, and how they were made on Ebay, and I seen the two fingers in the back is what was holding me up. Got it out, and back in.
I see there is some sort of flapper in there with a spring?
The foam around it is starting to tear. Is that a big deal, or no? |
