I have searched to no avail.

What do people use for the short section that attaches the heater vent in the cargo area from the valve that goes into the pipe to the vent itself?

did you keep the old one to measure it? If not maybe you can get a used one from Ken Madsen at TheBusco, Chris at Busted Bus, or Avery's air cooled.

You can also get silicone heater hose in a range of sizes from Aircraft Spruce.

As I have said before, since getting enough heat to the windshield to keep it clear is a priority for most, wiring the diverter valve to force all the air forward is a good idea along with just sealing off the vents to the rear.

Are you referring to the one in this thread? https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?p=7970004&highlight=hose#7970004

See my solution.
