Hi.
I've seen 3 military cars over the years and a few civilian models. It's an odd combination I guess, anyone know how many are left? I seem to remember being told it was around a dozen.
Cheers

I feel *very* lucky to have this 11e. It’s in the middle of a full
restoration as the picture shows. It’s going to take some time, but
we’re really looking forward to getting this car on the road! And I’ll
interested to hear of any others that might be driving. _________________ Happy to be alive. Hey Dad, Mom, wish you were here to see all this.

Above picture is the standard ragtop zwitter-project which I recovered after hibernating 30 years in a garage 30km from my place. Am still hunting some missing parts which were "modernized" over the years by PO so for now it continues hibernation in my garage.

Nice. I still have some 60's mods. Hydraulic brake and syncro box from 60-70's but the PO told me when, how and why he did it. I quite like that.

At one time they had a porsche engine installed so they replaced speedo, enginecover and taillights etc etc But since that engine has disappeared I will go back to stock as much as possible. _________________ 54 iceland green oval, done!

I know there is one that is the upstate area of South Carolina. I have lost track of it in recent years but it does exist. I used to own it, sold it back in about 1999 or 2000. It was basket case and missing a lot of stuff but very restorable. It did still have the wing nut seats but it was "upgraded" to hydraulic brakes. _________________ Looking for anything from Hal Casey Motors out of Hamburg New York, from license plate surrounds to matchbooks.

Ovalin AZ/Mr OG Paint.
Thanks for that guys. I'd love to see the birth cert for that one.
M003 is an unidentified option on mine, but all the British military cars seem to have this dash delete and steering mounted ignition/lock so that could be it.
So thats 7 pod 3 zwitters so far

Here is a 1952 standard sunroof I discovered in 2019 in Western Germany. Longterm ownership, some "updates", but matching numbers. As I heard it had recently been sold within Europe. Some more pics in my gallery.

For the record, as far as I can tell the original colour for BAoR cars was MID BRONZE GREEN BS223. Also used on the early land rovers. |

what I would like to know,
is there any production numbers of the 11E available? (and more specific zwitter so Oct 1952 - March 1953 (57928 in total as per chassisnumbers)
And maybe one more question: what is the reason for the standard ragtop version to exist in general ? I can't imagine all military issued beetles would be ragtops. I know there is 11A, 11B, 1, 11D, 11E, 11F, 11G, 11H
So what is the background of 11E in military production?
Anyone? _________________ 54 iceland green oval, done!

I don’t know about production numbers. The BOaR cars seem to have started around 1950 in standard form, from 52 onwards a sunroof seems to be added right through to oval production. Maybe there was an advantage to standing up in the car? I just spotted a 54 at a dealers disguised as a deluxe but obviously a standard and with the M003 ignition delete.
So there may be many more BAoR cars out there with their owners none the wiser. |

why a sunroof standard? why not? the deluxe was about 750dm more than the standard (deluxe 5150dm and standard 4400dm) but the sunroof option was only an extra 250dm - so maybe you couldn't stretch to a deluxe but you could treat yourself a bit...
looks like 2 or 3 in this factory lot circa 1950
