Hi folks.
This is for the OBD1 ABA 2.0
Any users out there have experience with various brands of new or rebuilt IAC valves? i.e. for a $44 CND BECK/ARNLEY 1581478 am I looking at a really cheap product that will fail soon?
e.g. from Rockauto

Dunno, I have never had one fail. I still have the original one on my '94 Golf with 318K miles on it.
Can you source one from a pick-n-pull? |

Thanks. Helpful POV. My other ABA engine idles perfect. Same IAC for some miles. I've thoroughly cleaned each IAC on each engine.
Yes. I just bought another IAC and 2 spare ECU's re: the IAC, the other day my VW parts guy said something like 'unless its VAG, [Bosch] don't buy it'.
I just swapped in one of the "new" ECU's. I'm hoping the issue was at the "adaptive" circuitry in the old ECU. I'll inspect it for any scorched parts or cold solder joints.
Swapping the IAC in question to my other van didn't seem to cause the issues I see so it's most likely that the valve itself isn't at fault. On the van with the idle issues, the IAC Ohms out and I haven't found a fault in the wiring or a related sensor input to the idle control system. "Thankfully", lately, I can recreate the issue sometimes. 95% of the time the engine idles, runs awesome.
If I can't solve it, I'd be tempted to swap in an OBD2 system. FAS still has new Tiico motorized throttle bodies.

I *think* they'd be the same as those used on a North American Mk3 or could be adapted?
Anyhow. This is getting into the "hybrid" forum territory.
Neil.
