My headlight relay for my 70 vert has 5 wires the schematic call for 4. Mine has an extra wire to power 30. Why? I pulled the 5 wire and replaced it with a 4wire off my parts car and it works great.

So why the extra power wire?

For Euro market cars with the passing light feature, one relay covers all these days.
You can jump from 56 to 30 to make it work just like your old NA spec one, or add a thickish red wire from a constant battery source on the fuse box to 30 and flash the lights by pulling the signal lever even if the headlights are turned off.

Rather than adding the jumper between the two dimmer relay terminals, run a new red wire between the #30 terminal of the dimmer relay and one of the constant 12v fuses on the fuse box. Connecting #30 to a constant 12v source will give you an additional "flash" function that is not available with the 4-prong relay.
Using the jumper wire to connect #30 and #56 converts the 5-prong relay functionally into a 4-prong relay.

With the 4-prong dimmer relay, the dimmer system is powered by the headlight switch and does nothing until the headlight switch is fully ON (2nd ON position). While driving during the daytime, if you pull on the dimmer switch, nothing happens.
The reason for the 5th terminal on the dimmer relay is to allow the dimmer switch/relay to work even without the headlight switch being ON. With the 5-prong relay, the #30 terminal is connected to a constant 12v source. This means the dimmer relay can function even with EVERYTHING turned OFF. This allows you to "flash" your headlight at ANYTIME by just pulling on your dimmer switch... even when the ignition and headlights are OFF! You can be parked and pulling on your dimmer switch will flash your headlights.

For this new red wire, use a 14 or 12AWG wire. In some 5-prong relays it is this red #30 wire (not the #56 wire from the headlight switch) that provided the current to power the headlights. So you need a #30 red wire gauge thick enough to carry the load of BOTH headlights (load from two 55W high beams = 9.2A). The headlights themselves are fused after the dimmer relay which is why you can take the #30 source from the unprotected (INPUT) side of the fuse box.
