I have a Stinger battery isolator I am going to use for my auxiliary battery system.
I have poured through the search and FAQ for my answer to this question (with no clear help):
Where are you hooking up the relay to what the instructions call a "true ignition source"?
The relay has (4) poles: (2) large to connect the Positive terminal of the batteries, (1) small for ground and (1) small to "true ignition source".
Any help is much appreciated. _________________ '90 Carat |

In a Vanagon a 'true ignition source' could be the X circuit. i.e. ignition on except during starting. You could also use the fridge relay output, as that is on only when the engine is actually running and happy. _________________ Jim Crowther

My Carat doesn't have a fridge relay. But you mentioning the X circuit led me to a different thread. It suggests hooking up the the #13 fuse. I'll give that a try. _________________ '90 Carat |

Maybe the #12... or pull from the X bus on the rear..
Read this thread.

Where is isolator going to be installed?
Does the Stinger user manual specify Amp coil Amp draw? (amps across ground and "true ignition" wires).
A quick google of that brand name shows some high Amp rated isolators.

It will be mounted under the driver's seat.

The manual is literally a one page diagram showing wiring for isolator or high current relay. I'll be using it as an isolator. No technical numbers are given.

It is rated for 200A as a relay. That's if I wanted to use it as a switch for a trolling motor or the like.

I was curious if the switch coil on a high Amp rated isolator might draw more current than the D+ circuit wiring is meant to handle. But, your Carat likely doesn't have the blue D+ wire under drivers seat.
If battery was installed under the rear bench seat, if there's a rear heater, X circuit might be available there.
Looking at the wiring diagram, relay position 7 looks open. Tap into X circuit there? If so, properly secure the new wire.
I don't know enough to say for sure if using the X circuit is a good idea but this thread suggests indicates it may be an option:
