So wait...
Are you drifting with the “small power big fun” engine?
I didn’t think a 1600 would do that so I built a 2276 for my Ghia.
By the way, I put the 43mm 740 Merged Comp with the 150mm exhaust on it.
I’m glad you guys are doing what you do.

Yes, they will. Back in the day one of the most popular engines was the 88x69 1679cc screamer. Right cam, compression, and heads and a small cc motor can be pretty stout.

Nice! Looks like it runs pretty good! I thought i read that everyone says not to run a W110 on a stock size engine. Appears to work well enough.

I kinda always kept this to myself but I think every type 1 engine should be able to run 4000 RPM like that all day long without overheating.
If it can't then is it really worth having in your bug?
NICE WORK VWTAIWAN !!!

whats your speed at 4000 in 4th?
and got anymore details on the engine?
Valve train and cooling system?

Lol...the 1679 screamer was very popular back in the day.... ow, definitely not stout like a 2 liter but it can be built to perform very well.

4000 in 4th is about 80mph

Engine detail :
Balanced Stock crank
all moving parts were balanced also
4kg flywheel
I like 35.5 x 32 head, in order to keep air velocity. Bigger valves not possible to drift.
Single heavy duty valves and thick wall Alu. push rods.

W110 with 9.3:1 compressor is the key to make power ~

109 mph top speed sounds about right.
The 143 is actually a quite decent set up. About the best style they make. Just a shame that it cannot be run with heater boxes. That would have increased sales tremendeusly in Europe at least.
