Tram, yer a light weight. I got mine 60 years ago.
In answer to the original question, I have had 2 minor fender-benders. Once, 58 years ago in my '51 Chev (gray) the other 39 years ago in a company Buick (blue) |

2 as driver when I was a teenager, both my fault.
1 in my 20’s, flying low and hit a tree.
Several minor fender benders from other distracted drivers.
The latest was about 15 years ago. I was at a red light with a car in front and behind. I was enjoying the scenery, when I saw a mid-80’s Riviera coming down the hill and saw it kinda bounce off the curb. I thought it was strange, then as it got closer I noticed no one was driving! Well, crap. There was no where to go so I dove into the passenger footwell. Got hit right in the fender, door, and quarter. Evidently the driver had a stroke. Anyway, they rebuilt my 1 year old Acura RSX Type S to my dismay. I’ve decided to mostly purchase medium to full size cars as daily’s since. _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I was hit head on in my 71 super beetle. my knees hit the dash so hard I dented them. in shock, I opened the door and got out. I was spun into someone's front yard.
the woman who hit me was driving a dodge lancer. she stopped, then took off. I went running after her and almost caught her....I punched the back hatch and glass shattered. she got about 3/4 of a mile away (out of sight from me, down a side road) when her axle shattered. cop told me she was a repeat offender. found drug paraphernalia in her car...but she left the scene and could only charge her with leaving the scene. fukkin junkies.
was turning into school in my 83 diesel rabbit. turn signal on, everything right... got rear ended pretty good. driver tried to take off...as they were trying to do so I had nothing left to lose, so when they came up along side me I gave them a PIT maneuver. 2 of my friends were a couple cars behind and 1 boxed the guy in while the other one in a lifted Silverado went all lawn job and boxed the asshole in.
the out come:
almost lost my ass on the 71 super. in the end got a decent payout. car was a total loss. bought I back, parted it and recouped some cash.
the rabbit needed a rear bumper and mounts as well as a front end cap and a t/s lens. the car that hit me was a mazda GLC. it got towed and the cops hauled it off. I got paid to repair the car (which wasn't all that bad) and put some $$ in my pocket.
all of this was in 1995/96 _________________

Ok I will play this game!
Total: 43 if I haven't missed any that is...
You as passenger 4
Your fault 4
Not your fault 38
Single car 32
Multi-car 11
Anything else of interest:
1) 30 of these collisions were wildlife strikes ranging from a few hundred dollars to three total losses.
2) The only one that resulted in any significant injury to myself was a motorcycle crash. I attribute this to judicious use of seat belts.
3) None of these collisions resulted in either a roll over or a fire contrary to popular (Hollywood fueled) belief!
4) This is over a span of 47 years and approximately 5 million miles of driving!

Flipped a ‘71Super Beetle end over end 3 times & rolled it six more jumping the aqueduct. We all got out with only scratches & bruises.
1 that was determined equipment failure, a throttle linkage on my Type III truck that stuck WOT, lifted the front wheels enough to hit a Mickey Ds.
Hit & almost killed a woman that pulled out in front of me with her Ford Escort & stopped trying to insurance scam while I was driving my 3/4 ton 4wd Silverado on 35”s. (Witnesses came to my rescue, the lady’s insurance paid for the truck.)
1 while a passenger, T-boned by an illegal that made an illegal U-turn. (The vehicle owner’s insurance paid for damages.)
Hit head on twice, exactly one year apart, on April fools day, by people texting. (Their insurance paid for my cars & bills.)
Side swiped by a road raging illegal that not only didn’t understand traffic laws but also the laws of physics. (The vehicle owner’s Insurance paid for damages.)
T-boned by someone turning left across traffic, I was in the free flowing right lane.
Dozens more off-road & track related incidents.
And avoid easily a dozen a week. _________________ Everybody born before 1975 has a story, good, bad, or indifferent, about a VW.

All 4 doors opened and closed with no damage and so did the sunroof. So the passenger compartment was completely intact. In fact with the low mounting of the engine, nothing leaked and the car was driven onto the flatbed.
After the accident I went back to the dealer and showed my salesman the picture. He asked what I wanted to do, I told him.. "get me another". Sames model, same options and same color.
Monday - accident
Tuesday - ordered new car
Wednesday - got the check from the insurance company
Friday - picked up new car
Couldn't of gone better.
Sad thing is, i was tapped in the back a month earlier and had the rear bumper cap replaced the week before. _________________ Glenn

Just one in 37 years of driving.
Stopped in my Jag sedan on a busy street trying to make a left hand turn. A guy driving a F350 was looking at his phone ran into me doing 50mph.
Snapped my seat and flung my head into the left seat belt anchor on the door pillar. Knocked me out cold and I drove the car down the road about 100 yards bumping off the curb. Woke up with people looking at me.
Suffered a TBI that has taken most of my memories, effected my short term memory and causes big gaps in processing when I get stressed. I rely a LOT on stickies these days and still have periods where I get "lost" while driving on familiar roads.
Could have been worse....no ortho issues luckily |

32 years of licensed driving.
Two accidents, neither my fault, three weeks apart, at the age of 18.
First, I get T-boned in my dad's 68 bug when a red Pontiac shitpile (Chevette clone) blows a red light going 50. My only injury was a cut on my finger from climbing out the door that was bent outward from my body pushing it out.
Beetle was very totaled.
Second, I hit a kid on a bike while driving about 45 down a country road in a Dodge cargo van. Both van and kid got fixed up well. My mind was a little fucked up for awhile.
Not a single crash since. And only one speeding ticket. My old beater Toyota pickup has been hit twice while parked. I watched them both happen from a few yards away. _________________ nothing |

Exactly ONE in 30 years of driving, and it was a one car accident. But it was a doozy. Ran my moms Impala off the interstate into a group of trees at 60 mph. Wish I still had a picture of that thing.
I don't hit other people and they don't hit me. I don't have time for that stuff. _________________ I'm the humblest guy on this board.

Hard to remember everything but...
1. Wrecked my Scirocco after someone ran a stop sign in front of me. I was on a 4-lane street and he shot out of a side street. I t-boned him. No injuries but I wasn't wearing my seat belt (dumb) and popped up and hit my head on the sunroof. Car was totaled from front end damage.
Not my fault
2. Rear ended on the freeway in my old GTI at maybe 5 mph. Traffic stopped quickly, box truck behind me wasn't paying attention and bumped me. Dented the rear end. Got an insurance check to fix it but didn't.
Not my fault
3. Spun out my wife's Mazda on the freeway when we hit black ice on a curve. An 18-wheeler bumped us in the rear too and we spun around and into the side guardrail. We were both in it. Basically no injuries. Car was totaled front and rear.
My fault for "driving too fast for the conditions"
There's been a few cases where I or someone else bumped each other at super low speeds. No damage to either car so we went on our way.
Fault was mixed _________________ How to Post Photos

As a teenager, rolled my Hilman Imp numerous times on the farm over about three years. I learned alot about sliding and control before I got on the road. Eventually it wouldn't go any more when I rolled it back onto its wheels again (retired)
Had a 80's 900cc kawazaki wipe the whole front of my 122Volvo when I was only second week as a licensed driver. He decided to punch the red light rather than lose the six pack of beer between his knees on the tank. Killed my first resto No fault. Guy never walked again. No payout as the guy was uninsured and his med bills bankrupted him.
Had a Valiant station wagon turn across the front of me while it was raining very heavily. My range rover had no chance of stopping and I wiped him out. Heavy steel bullbar, no damage to me. No fault.
Was sitting at a red traffic light and had a woman drive into the back of my rangie at speed. Who knows what was distracting her. It bounced my car up and I literally drove off her bonnet after the cops had finished with her. No damage to my car but her corolla was a write off. No fault.
Meat in the sandwich in a 6 car pile up in Japan. Mazda Familia written off. Full insurance replacement from responsible driver. No fault
6 years racing frame buggies... umm I cant remember how many crashes, mostly my fault there but lots of fun.
30 years so far no personal error on the road. touch wood! _________________ 58Euro 23 343208 The Ultimate Zimblewinder Machine.
