If it's going to work, it probably needs to be mounted right to the burner exit. I've long suspected that the cat on my tdi van isn't as effective because it's too far downstream to capture the required heat needed to function properly. _________________ Casey--

I have the D2. Never been bothered by diesel odor on startup or while continuously running. _________________ Evan

Those are significantly larger that what would be required/used on one of the little heaters. |
Oh, absolutely.... WAAAAAAY overkill. But also not $330. |
I'm thinking that if one really wanted a catalytic converter, that giant thing (as compared to the small one made for the heater) would probably never get hot enough to work properly. |
Interesting, I never realized that the cat has to get hot in order to function, but that does make sense... I learned something new today! _________________ Grant

Apparently the diesel heaters should have a maximum combustion chamber temperature of 180°C, ~350°F - not nearly hot enough to 'light up' a cat. _________________ Jim Crowther

seems so, but there IS a cat made for these heater's exhaust! it probably isn't a super high tech media that operates at lower than normal temp, as it would sky rocket the price beyond the advertised 300Euro.
i don't even have one of these heaters but i'd love to bench test one with some different cats i have around. very easy to see if they are working with an IR camera. something for the long garage project list, eh? _________________ -dan
