I know this has been discussed exhuastively, however, this question is different from what I have seen in my searches. I am going to be replacing pans, supports and heater tubes in the vert so I know I must get the body supported before anything. Looking at the door gaps has me scratching my head though. They are not wide at the top like most topics cover but wide from bottom to top. Do they make a door stretcher? Ha.
The gap at the front of the door seems fine but at the back you can almost drive another bug through when closed. Anyone have idea why? I don't believe there has ever been any real pan work and the heater tubes are actually not bad at all.
My idea right now is build door jam supports with a small spacer, then when welding everything back together take the spacers out to close up the jams a bit.
Ideas, thoughts, prayers?

That's a tough one . That front cowl has been hit the top hinge is bent and look how thick the filler is on the cowl panel. |

Yeah. The gap isn't great on the passenger side either and it wasn't hit in that side. You are right though there seems to be something fishy. I just have never seen too large a gap, it's usually too tight when things get hit. _________________ Noob

Maybe you should remove the paint and body filler from that left front cowl before you remove the body . How does the front hood fit . Can we get pictures of the inside of the cowl and the door hinge pillars . Also pull the carpet from the left inside cowl and take a picture. |

I would weld up that crack at the upper hinge and then refit the door. Looks like the hinge was stuck at one time and someone keep opening and closing the door, then finally fatiguing the metal, which in turn messed up your door alignment. You can see in the first pic where that hinge has been hitting the body seam. |

If a mod wants to move this thread to Body/Paint that would be fine with me. This might get long and might be off topic for this forum. Chalk it up to being a noob to thesamba _________________ Noob

Could be that door was opened too far. The hinges have an opening limit and if the door gets pushed too far the hinges can bend, or the door jamb can deform, or the door can deform. Sometimes all 3 can happen. _________________ Brian

I believe you are on to something here. Looking at it more and more it looks like a combination of being overly extended and some of the damage to the apron causing some deformation. _________________ Noob
