Vicious cycle...

the Luk clutch was made in England if you can believe the stamp. it's the same kit I used on Ride-On's 5 speed.

my theory is this: if it comes direct from a dealer it has to pass a better QC process than what would be offered to the aftermarket.

case in point:

I thought for sure i'd be warranting brake parts left and right when Volvo started going to china for stuff. that hasn't been the case.

take the same china rotor from a parts house....and it's junk in a month. the moral of the story here is it's always a crap shoot and I broke my own rule, and it bit me. such is life.

what was once a good trusted brand just isn't so anymore and it's sad...but again maybe I did get the one out of 3000 units that just failed, that is a possibility.

but...here's the rub. when I built my sharTTruck a couple years ago I used a sachs sport kit as it's now a 1.8T. I broke it in under their instructions for 1k miles of stop and go traffic.

getting on the highway in 3rd that clutch slipped under boost. I was pissed...but from day one, the clutch felt like I was stepping on a water balloon much like this one.

sadly, this is where we're at.

You da man Don! Well done! Taking that Frankensteined POS, hacked swap out and then taking the bus to the promised land was no small feat.

That drive had to feel magnificent. Wink

not really. honestly, I was on edge the entire time. as the miles clicked by so did my anxiety. I was just waiting for the next shoe to drop, seems to be a theme with the build unfortunately.

other than having about 8 gallons of fuel in the bus and the gas gauge never moving out of the orange 'reserve' patch, it was (thank God) uneventful. I used the sender that was in the bus which I believe is the original. Thankfully I cut the access panel out, so it's like 2 seconds to pull the sender out.

i'm starting to feel better about life again. I haven't sat in the corner rocking and sucking my thumb with a bottle of captain in like 3 days Laughing

i'll shit in my hat if i can get anywhere with a refund on the clutch. i will try and get down there in the next day or so. if you don't see me post for a few days, i'm in jail for assault on a glass storefront

I’m worried too. Local judge in Dons town owns the Subaru dealership.

not much to report, except I plowed another 20 miles on it

been laying out the a/c stuff. may post a bit about that when I get further. I have a intermittent driveline rattle which I think is the transmission mount. another issue with using the Subaru 5 speed is the awful angle that the nose cone mount ends up with. basically, I have to clearance the mount bar the pinches the "horns" to the torsion tube. i'm 99% sure I had to do it to Ride-On's bus too.

other than that, there is a VERY annoying fresh air flap whistle at about 45 mph, and gets worse with speed....i mean like scratch your eyes out annoying. i'll pull the grill and have a peek at it.

with the sound deadening it's kinda spooky how quiet these swaps are at speed.
