Oh for Pete's sake - the dial indicator can only move about 1/4 inch total. The needle resolution is in half-thou = so each scratch is half thou 5/10,000. Two scratches is 1/1000.
The limit of the gauge is only 1/4 inch. The feet on the dialbore guage can only move a few thou. So you set the gauge and the dialbore stem to the smallest amount of movement to be able to go in the bore.
Allow about 0.005 - 0.008" movement in the dialbore gauge to measure whatever hole you are measuring. Don't bottom out the gauge or the stem on the dialbore gauge or you will crush the mechanisms inside.
use the smaller stems and add the tiny shims to bring up the height of the stem. The shims should be w/ the dialbore gauge kit. Or you can machine a custom spacer for whatever you are measuring to go under the stems.
If you are measuring just runout, you just need the dialbore gauge. If you are measuring the actual bore, you will need a micrometer to get the dimension you read off the dialbore gauge.
This is not hard...or rocket science. |
