The good news is that after 7 years 11 months i had it running and it left the garage under its own power. The bad news: Cannot adjust the clutch cable or it has no effect. 75 standard beetle and pedal cluster, double sided transmission with the 75 lever on the trans.
It would appear that there isn't enough travel to disengage the clutch. No slack either so it slips under power. I'm trying to use the older trans with the 4.1 ring and pinion because of the larger tires. 225/75-15.
Solution? Back to the 3.88 trans? Older pedal cluster? Thanks, guys. |

"Travel" should not be a issue, changing clutch arm should not be issued as people have mixed and matched about every combination of arms and transaxle imagenable...
Real question is do you have correct clutch disk and pressure plate for through bearing and throwout forks style...
Also clutch cable could be wrong length, clutch tube could be loose in tunnel or problem with the hook at pedal assembly (worn)....
Its something other than just changing transaxle...

What makes you think the clutch is good?
Did you use a early throw out bearing on a late trans? You should see a collar poking out past the throw out bearing. |

Are you saying the car has been sitting for 7years 11 months?
Clutch could just be rusted together |

Trying to exchange an AT transmission with an AH. All the peripherals are the same and the i checked the clutch. I really don't know what the issue is.

Where do we place our bets?
I'm sure it's an issue of early trans, throwout arm and bearing / late clutch pressure plate. _________________ Richard
