I'm rebuilding my motor and am in the process of putting it back together. I have a question.

1. The manual says the pistons can go on any of the rods, but the arrow must point toward the flywheel. My pistons do not have an arrow, but the are stamped "STD" and the other side has a cut in it. See the picture. All four are in the same position. Does it matter how they are installed in reference to the flywheel?

I bought a new set of standard 1600 jugs/pistons. They have been sitting awhile, so the oil in the pistons were a bit sticky. I had to clean them all with a solvent. In doing so, I broke a #2 compression ring on one piston. Now I have to order a new set of rings for these new pistons. Dang it.

THanks
Bob

Your straight on photo doesn't show the dimple in relation to the wrist pin. Use the dimple as a substitute for the arrow. Sorry about the broken ring, it happens to the best of us.

Ask on here. I’m sure there’s plenty of folk who have a spare from the set they broke. I’d send you one but I’m ten thousand km away. I’m sure there’d be someone on samba close to you that has one for a few bucks or a six pack.
