Thanks, yeah-I had a lapse in judgement. I panicked. I would've been devastated if I sold it at this point... more updates soon... front window frames, windshields are coming out... peace!

I made it to OCTO this year and I had a blast!!
It felt like there were 1000 buses and 100 swappers.

Quick recap:
- Friday left after work and got in OCTO line at 2am (gates open 6am). There were about 40 buses in line ahead of us already!!
- Set-up a swap with amigos and I made $500
- No sleep for 40 hours
- Broke down 1.5 hours away from home on way back. Engine had an "internal failure" and needed to be replaced under warranty. (2013 with 86k miles)

I got caught in a 10 minute rain storm on the way back from local vw gathering and water POURED in through windshield!
Happy to report that none of the paint was ruined. The clearcoat I applied worked!!
Windshields are out and getting ready to prep frames and install new seals.
I removed the wiper motor motor and assembly...new parts on order.
I went for a drive without windshields. It was cold and windy!
I also replaced my muffler (was old) with a new cheapie empi one. It has a little more grumble to it.

A little Christmas Cheer.
2 quick videos of the bus in the Christmas Lights Cruise through our little town.
I was the only Volkswagen of course.
The guy who took the vid loved the bus apparently.

Finally cleaned up around the windshields and installed new seals.
Not perfect, but no more rain pouring in.
Also, got the window door frames cleaned up, spray painted, new seals and latches etc.

-- I removed my ABS panels and installed board type door panels and the long cargo panel. These look closer to OG. They came out my friend's 66.
They used to be a light yellow color. I sprayed them grey. I like this look much better! (the flipper is not correct for my chassis # so waiting for correct handle to arrive)

-- My buddy unfroze my wiper shafts and it's running like butter now. Will install that soon, waiting on some of the grommets, etc.

-- I used super magnets to mount this lantern hanger so he rides with me everywhere!!

Up next: install wiper motor, kick panels, and find ugly matching passenger sun visor.

Me again with an update.
- Turn signals are working. (Video)
- Wiper motor installed. (Hear sounds in video)
- Kick panels, tray and steering column situation is all back in.
- I bought this rack. I believe it's a bay rack that was modified for my split. (Got a good deal on it)
- I bought some 14" Fuchs, then sold them the next day.
And, here's Macho enjoying some California sunshine.
Another photo of bus enjoyment hanging out by the water.

I added a 57 to the garage this weekend.
I was going to start a new thread but I'm going to keep these together and post as I tinker with both.
More info to come...

I'm in the process of stripping paint from the 57.
Here is my process and photos. Took me a few small test sections to figure out the timing. I also found a "G" from a previous logo from og owner who had a cleaning business. RUG. I found original photos of bus and info on original owner so I'll post an update on all my findings soon.

The layers I see so far are: CLEARCOAT>SHINY PURPLE>GREY PRIMER>DULL PURPLE>RED PRIMER>DOVE BLUE

Step 1: Applied Goof-Off Graffiti and let it sit for 30 minutes.
Step 2: Used a metal scraper to scrape bubbly layers.
Step 3: Repeated steps 1 and 2 until I start seeing the RED PRIMER.
Step 4: Applied Goof Off and started using a 0000 steel wool to massage RED PRIMER to reveal DOVE BLUE.
Step 5: Sprayed area with water and wipe down to deactivate all Goof-Off.

*Photos below are the steps, but may be different sections

Great work! It would be awesome to bring back all that original Dove blue and polish it. Hopefully most of it is still there.

Thanks! I hope so too. I hope to save the original logo writing as well. More info to come, but here is an update. The sanding in the middle was already there (I'm not using any sandpaper), but I might have rubbed some blue off on and near the beltline.

If it makes you guys feel better, I'm pretty sure I saw this Bus in person in the past... how many purple Double-door Buses can there be...

The purple was really shitty paint with lots of issues.

Thanks everyone. Yes, the purple is kinda cool for 2 minutes, then it’s over. And one of the reasons why I got this bus (other than I wanted an early DD) is that it had the possibility of having og paint underneath. Here’s another photo update. Today, I’m hitting filler and bondo behind cargo door lower half so I’ll post updates as I go...

A little more stripping done. Cargo door was a beast. It was like concrete.

Love this! Glad to see you had original paint under all that, plus logos! I was hoping for the same thing on my DD, but the dove blue was too far gone from sanding. My interior was the only area that was worth exposing. Keep going...... I know it's hard work, but it will be totally worth it once completed!
