All metal, has been painted over. Does have "Made in Germany" stamp barely visible. Came on a car I bought, trying to get history on these and what it might be worth.

Thanks!

It looks to be an original.

As far as I know no aftermarket racks came with the stamp.

Worth $400-$500

I was thinking of sand blasting it and repainting. What color woud it have been originally? Grey?

Paint it to match your wheels & don't sell it! Use warm linseed oil/turpentine mixture 3 to 1 w/a little dark oak stain etc in it on the slats yearly.

It is a coating rather than a paint- so duplicating it has had mixed results. I'd describe it as having a 'galvanized' look and feel- and it ages about like galvanizing would (but I do not know what it really was). I have many racks and decided to powder coat one to see how it would look. I used a ragtop-height, 1st generation VOA rack- pictured below before clip install. I really like the result- it has a slight sheen due to a very light metallic content. The shop called it "Camaro silver." It's basically the lightest grey tone the shop I use has.

But.. but... but, it's got patina! Wink

When ugly new repops go for that... an original is easily worth more than $200.

That's how I look at it. Compare it to the price of new JUNK.

I would love to see an original rack in any shape for $200!

If I was closer Kirk I would buy that for two hundy without question.

Shiny is boring. Anyone can BUY or make something pretty, squeaky clean and shiny. #Sleep

Patina you can not Buy, its unique. The second its redone, it's just like every other...

Put my car next to any show stopper trailer queen. See who gets more attention.

But I digress...

But do as you please by any means! They were originally a semi-gloss silver/grey.

Patina, no sir that's called old white house paint- on everything. Now it's called shabby chic. "Patina" is naturally aged original- hence the year 2019 value in USD.
