Hi, I need to replace the bracket for the hand brake lever. That is the holder, welded to the tunnel of the pan.
Here is the full story, if you are interested: https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=...;start=100
I found a bracket out of a 65 bug with a long lever. I will have to use a short lever, as mine is a late pan.
The problem is, that if I use the above bracket with the short lever I have, it will be too high in its lowest possible position. The long lever that belongs to the bracket will go down all the way to be parallel to the tunnel. If I am looking at my 68 bug’s hand brake lever, it will also go pretty far down. Can be seen on below picture with the slots of the tooth plates aligned.
What is off??? Has the bracket changed with the length change of the lever? Are there different tooth plates with different return angles for the hand brakes? Somebody having an idea?
Thanks halbug
Not sure if this is the right forum, but I did not find one for this general pan question?!? |

I have a short handle swapped into my '64 frame (buggy.) The handle lays flat like you show with the early style long brake handle. However, I notice that I have the ratchet plate with the slot in it (that you show in the long handle.) I also see the pin for the balance plate (not shown in your pictures) is missing on the short brake handle. _________________
