While I am still trying to get the bloody seals onto my restored door frames I decided to buy another complete set of OG door frames with glass. I paid a fair price and they are well worth it as they even include the screws and bolts and I can always pass them forward once I have my restored completed.

I cleaned the outer track and have my nice new German seals from Ronnie of Bustoration but I would like to remove the orange rust film before I insert the outer seal. I have spent way too many hours trying to locate the thread I liked on how to remove that orange film without destroying the OG paint on the frames. I tried the blue pads and water to no avail. I remember Uzi cleaning up the same film on his white westy and I can't even find that.

Track cleaned up nicely.

Ready for seal but I need to remove the orange rust and seal it.

I agree with Obus- CLR will help tremendously. You can follow it with a gentle polish if you have the patience. I use Turtle Wax Color Back- orange bottle. I'm assuming it's compared to Meguiers lighter polishes. I use toothbrushes and a variety of towel rags.

Start a good movie, sit on the floor with a sheet over your lap and start working off the rust by hand. It will come out great.

Yes, this is what she is thinking of - people using CLR and warm water to remove that sort of surface rust/dirt/etc

CLR

Wow yes so sorry forgot CLR and I have it in the garage. Did a few searches and I found it is a 50/50 mix with water, this youtube shows it in a spray bottle with scotch bright green pads. Thanks, I'll post results. Skim's bus looks amazing I hope my window frames turn out half as good.

Update, I used 50/50 CLR and water and the green pads although it appears I removed too much paint. More to come although I was pretty surprised that my wimpy hands were successful with minimal effort.

No green pads! Use 0000 steel wool or perhaps 000 at most. It will test your patience but will remove it in combination with CLR or if it's really light rust just soapy water.

The paint on the front window frames and pop-out frames is very thin.
It's easy to go to primer or bare metal.
One of my pop-out frames in the same way after I tried to clean it.

I use 000 steel wool and heavy wax, or 0000 steel wool and wax. 000 steel wool for heavy rust, which is light rust in other areas. No special wax, just stuff I get out of free boxes at garage sales.

Thanks for the tip Long-roofs but how is the wax applied in conjunction with the CLR?
