Hi folks, I’m looking at buying a repro Empi GT steering wheel from Flat 4 as the originals are so expensive.
Just wondered what people’s thoughts are on them, any issues I should know about, what’s the quality like? How different are they from the originals?
Thought I’d see what opinions are out there as there seems to be a lot of rubbish kicking about!
Many thanks

I have an older Flat 4 GTV reproductive version in my 67.

Looks good, drives good, horn button works..

Only complaint .. it can shock you every once in a while. Shocked

High humidity, sweat, one hand on wheel, fingers on spokes...I get a tingle every so often when my elbow touches the chrome wing post or aluminum door trim.

Im sure it's one a reason why VWs wheels didnt have metal...the wheel with metal center and spokes is live with voltage and waiting on a ground path through the horn button. When the conditions are right the current will try to carry itself right down your shweaty skin.. Laughing
Not bad...but..I notice it.

Hah! I've noticed this phenomenon with my Formuling wheel also.

Hi Volkswagnut, like the pic, thanks for your insightful reply!
Im looking to buy the wheel for my 67 bug too, could you tell me if the diameter of the boss matches the diameter of the steering column? Do I need to specify 67 when purchasing the boss?
Many thanks
