I’ve been working on fitting tins for my 2387 for the street. Other than it generally looking like hell atm, any advice on anything I’ve missed?

Only one bit, make sure to trial fit the actual manifolds you will use, not all are the same _________________ Aust. RHD 66 Type 1

Looks like you've got it covered. 66brm's point is a good 1- depending on the thickness of the manifolds around the bottom, you could have some work yet. Is there a reason you went with the type 3 bottom pieces? _________________ On a lifelong mission to prove (much to my wife's dismay) that Immaturity is Forever!! |

Wrong bottom tins for an upright fan. Also do you have the flaps and thermostat to install still? And what are you doing for the oil cooler, dog house mod? Can't see that in the picture.
The rest looks good! |

Wondering about the main fan shroud? Does it have the directional vanes like the factory stock shroud? Get rid of the type three tins as the engine will run hotter. _________________ Volkswagen: We tune what we drive.

Don't forget these little buggers:
You might already have them in, but I couldn't see in your pics.
The rest is looking good, except for maybe the Type 3 tins, as noted above. _________________ "It's time you started treating people as individuals, rather than mathematically predictable members of an aggregate set, regardless of how well that works." |

without entering into a debate about the effectiveness of the 311 style lower tins , the aftermarket ones usually dont clip on very well and you should weld on some tabs so you can bolt them to the cylinder covers so they dont wind up sitting on your pushrod tubes |

I usually just safety wire then around the cylinders so they don't tattle. _________________ Glenn

Good points. It’s a doghouse cooler, I still need to fit all that.
Looks like I still need to secure bottom tins, install the small cylinder deflectors, fit my manifolds. Other than the stuff we could debate on, any other tips/tricks? _________________ 1972 Karmann Ghia |

I weld in vanes to mimic the flaps to direct air over the cylinders. I also fill in the space between the cooler and the "ramp" on the shroud that directs air into the cooler.
