front suspension is all wrapped minus some torquing once its on the ground. i forgot how sticky that poly bushing snot is
i had to pull the rack to do the inner tierod boots. easy enough with the manual rack but wow those things are tight...
starting in on the rear
while theres room to poke my head up there i swapped to the hydro motor mounts, and added a snorkel to the airbox
i think it was likely a bit too dusty just with the airbox opening sitting there in the pillar without any "fresh" air. its only been a few thousand miles and the filter was about due for a replacement. popped in a new subaru oem one while it was apart, should last longer now with the fresher snorkel air. im really curious to see how much this quiets it down
the spectre intake plumbing kit with that bendy tubing is fairly stout but the connections between the bending tube and the rubber wrap are somewhat finicky. hose clamps squish it too much i found it gripped better with zip ties spreading the load along more of the bendy tube.
its well jammed in there now once installed so hopefully wont wobble out _________________ MegaSquirt resource - SpitfireEFI.com

GLWS. Hope you're not selling the 124 anytime soon. I'm prepping mine for a sale, and I don't need the market competition. _________________ Casey--

Thanks guys
The w124 left a few years ago sadly... Didn't have the heart to destroy it with baby duty and we needed a baby car _________________ MegaSquirt resource - SpitfireEFI.com

Sorry to hear that. Our S124 still has the scars to prove kids are hell on cars. We ended up getting an Audi wagon to absorb the suffering...and suffer she did. Eldest totaled it a couple years ago.
Got any van replacement plans? _________________ Casey--

yeah we have a dieselgate touareg currently getting put through the ringer on kid duty, then we'll see whats next for kid hauling after that warranty runs out at the end of this year.
she might be old enough by then to justify something thats gonna stay nicer.... but.... we'll see
SQ5 is on the radar.... we like that shape/size but i keep waffling on whether i want an out of warranty v6 tdi to mod/delete when i have other fun cars i actually want to work on hah but if keep the touareg thatll stay for more diesel tinkering though im currently leaning towards letting that go at the end of the year.
so the SQ5 gas motor is tempting, but who knows
as for van plans... probably taking a couple year break from van camping until she's a little older to enjoy it more. then maybe time for a sprinter build? _________________ MegaSquirt resource - SpitfireEFI.com

What a great thread, I’m so glad I found it. Your attention to detail really shows. Great job. I’m sure it’s a bummer to have to post it for sale.
I recently purchased an 86 syncro with a TDI swap. I purchased it as is not running and got it running but haven’t driven it yet. I wish whoever had done the conversion was as meticulous as you were!

appreciate the kind words
the sale went fairly quickly, and itll be on its way to a new home sometime this week
excited to see how it gets on with its next adventures!
edit, a couple pictures of it leaving. was a little hard to watch, but it sounds like the new owners are quite pleased with it and its getting on a lot more adventures than its seen in the last few years!
