hey all! I am the new proud owner of an 81 aircooled vanagon.
Anyone recommend a shop to have it worked on either in the city or out fairfield/walnut creek area?
currently it failed smog pre-test with a high idle.
Thanks!

Try calling the Buslab in Berkeley. https://www.buslab.com/
They aren't cheap, and I have only purchased parts from them a couple of times, but it looks like a well run shop. _________________ 1987 Westfalia 2.1 WBX Manual |

Charles,
Welcome to the Samba. Lots of good people here with tons of knowledge. Let us know who you decide to go with for the smog test.

Tassi Inc. in Daly City is an independent VW shop that I recently discovered. These guys were super nice and knowledgable. They were working on all varieties of Vanagons - Air cooled and Diesels too. They don't smog, but they're a good independent shop just south of the city. _________________ Farfignewton! |

Welcome to the Busylum, where even sane people soon aren't.
Nice van! Like the checkered flag reference, your odds of beating bicycles are pretty good (if running well).
Enjoy! _________________ ‘84 Westy, 2.1L with Digijet, 5.43 R+P, GT Gears

Had the same problem, took it to three shops (including some of th eaforementioned ones). Only Valley Wagonworks in San Rafael could get it to pass |
