|
|
So, after 3 decades of dealing with crappy foil hoses and spending a fortune on single use only products, I am at my wits end. Has anyone come up with a full proof option for the pre-heat hoses from the fan shroud to the heater boxes? I am looking for something that can be used over and over without having to treat it like a delicate flower and something that is one piece. Let the responses commence.
thank you, |

I hate those aluminum hoses. They dent easy and collect dirt. I agree with the German hoses above. That’s what I run. However the plastic ones in this link are nice. I think they look pretty good too. Durable and easy to clean.

I bought new black paper-reinforced aluminum fresh air hose about five or six years ago. After removing the engine four or five times since, the hoses still look great and continue to hold their shape.

I'm not entirely sure what you are asking. I think what you're talking about is a solution for the hoses beneath the tin.
I don't have a one-piece solution, or one that contributes to the overall heating, but at least I don't have to change hoses very often.
Pls forgive the dust, my projects take a long time.
I think CSP has some sort of one-piece solution:

Hope that was of some help... |

I am amazed that someone hasn’t come out with an industrial strength solution (1 piece) that has that tight bend around the header, up through the tins and into the fan shroud. The German ones are the best, but still have issues when bending around headers. Maybe time to fab up a solid part that attaches to the heater box and punches through the tins. |

I used a radiator hose down to the tin. I to got tired of denting the flimsy aluminum ducting.

I've used 2" flexible steel exhaust tubing before. It's stiff and a little hard to make sharp bends but very durable and doesn't crush. Not too spendy either.

You can also find it in local flaps sometimes.
It's galvanised so it doesn't rust, but not sure if it gets hot enough to release any harmful zinc from the galvanised metal. Probably fine from the shroud to the apron tin. |

Those would eventually saw through by rubbing on the tin. |

Berg had something like that, on type 3 exhausts. I share your frustration, and it would be a bonus to build it to go around the exhaust, to pick up some heat, like stock. Keep us posted. |

That's funny, I did this very thing just last summer. I did a write-up on a couple weeks ago. Here ya' go:

It wasn't exactly one piece, but I don't mind. _________________ "It's time you started treating people as individuals, rather than mathematically predictable members of an aggregate set, regardless of how well that works." |

This tread reminded me of my first Bug, '63. The PO had used an oxygen hose off of a fighter pilot's mask for the pre-heater hose. Very flexible and tough. _________________ Daily driver: '69 Baja owned 44 yrs - Plan B: '81 Rabbit Diesel LS Deluxe - Plan C: '72 Ghia

Yeah, I read your thread, I figure with an afternoon or two, I can reproduce what you have done. Easy....
There's something that occurred to me: the question is it's own answer: "custom" implies bespoke, one-off. So the title acknowledges that there are no industrial one-piece solutions...
but there should be. |
