I was admiring the thin white wall tires on Meridians convt. Bug.
Been thinking about a set for my 72 super [org.].
I don't see many bugs with w/w tires, did VW put w/w's on any year/model ?
I have seen some of the older bug's with the wide w/w's on them, wonder what year did the thin ones come around ?
Any comments on w/w's on a bug ?
Any pic's of your bug with w/w's ? Thanks.

3/4 inch whitewalls were very common in the early seventies, especially, and possibly the late sixties (I can’t remember, exactly). This was true on all makes of cars, including ACVW’s.
Several manufacturers still offer them today for our VW’s. They’re more expensive, of course, so I rarely see them now at shows.

Tim, not trying to hi-jack your thread, i guess i should have started a new one.
You seem to have a lot of info. on the bugs history, here is a pic. of one of vw's ads. from 1971 posted by Maddel a short time ago. do you know if vw ever sold a bug with W/W's on it from the factory? this pic. looks like they did, or was w/w's put on by the owners ? Thanks.

It’s been awhile, but I seem to remember that VW actually sold some of their cars with 3/4 inch whitewalls.
The photo you just showed is from an actual VW advertisement. That should pretty much point to the fact that VW offered these as a stock item.
At some point, however, the slimmer whitewalls became a matter of buyer choice, and people were asked if they wanted the whitewall to be mounted “inside or outside”.

First trip out of the garage in years.
She needs a couple or 3 coats of wax as this is just post compounding. _________________ If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all. |

Zebedee, nice color.
Since it’s the first time out of the garage in three years, I have to ask: does it run?
